The Nike Drop

Collin Kaepernick has become the biggest news of the last few weeks with his involvement for Nike. There are many different opinions that are being presented, and Nike users seem to be having a hard time staying happy with Nike. The words “Just Do It” always had a reassuring sound, but according to ESPN.com this may have changed.

Since the Kaepernick ad stated, “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything”, there has been a rise in negative feedback by 17%. Could this be what will lead to Nike’s downfall, or was this an idea of genius that will continue to rise them up?

John Gerzema, CEO of the Harris Poll stated, “Nike took a strategic risk to alienate customers in order to appeal to their core base of 18 to 29 year old males.” Within this age group, positive feedback has gone up 6% percent in the polls. This is a very bold strategy that Nike has committed to. After this ad was released people nation wide began burning their personal Nike attire to express how they feel.

There are many different sides that people have taken, but who is right when it comes to something like this? Nike is still the biggest sporting goods and work out attire dealer in the world. Everything they have done so far has worked flawlessly. It is hard to see at this point how something like this is going to turn out.
