Border Crisis as Immigrants wait for Asylum

Crisis has occurred near the popular bridge to enter the US, the San Ysidro Port of Entry in California. Mexican federal police blocked marchers from getting closer to port of entry. Hundreds of marchers brawled with Mexican police in an attempt to cross the border. As marchers grew closer to the border, Border Patrol agents were being hit with rocks. This lead to agents firing off volleys of tear gas at the crowd.

Within the last six months, there would have been no problem in immigrants in receiving asylum. But in the last several months the Trump administration has been limiting the number of asylum seekers wanting to enter the US. A policy called “metering” cracks down on the seekers telling them those who want to come legally need to wait for an interview. It is difficult for asylum seekers because there is no official way to have a guaranteed appointment to be able to cross the border .

E Coli. found in Romaine Lettuce

The CDC alerted a food safety issue  about throwing away any romaine lettuce  found at home even if it was washed.  Washing the lettuce with water or vinegar won’t help kill E. Coli bacteria.

32 people in eleven states  and 18 people  in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec have  been affected by E. Coli. Sarah Sorscher, deputy director of regulatory affairs said ” Tracing the source of contaminated lettuce can be difficult because it’s often repacked by middlemen.”

So far no deaths have been reported but 19 people from both the U.S and Canada have been hospitalized. Most people recover from the illness in about a week but for others it may take a longer time to recover.

This morning there was a function in the Dimitt Formal where residents were able to stop by and grab a bagel and coffee. I was there along with four other RA’s, Billy, Kevin, Anna and Hope. Everyone was mostly dressed in sweatpants and a t-shirt except Anna, she was wearing her hoodie along with her purple coat.

Billy had brought up a question of why people drink coffee if they will soon crash throughout the day. Anna, who is a coffee addict said to him that coffee helps her stay awake in the morning for class.  I just started drinking coffee so I am still new to this coffee journey.

But Billy also brought up why people drink coffee if it will dehydrate you and whoever drinks it has to constantly keep drinking water and going to the restroom. While drinking tea doesn’t have that kind of affect on a person. When Billy said that I thought was very true. I had not thought about that since I only drink coffee when I need to get things done like writing a four page paper.

Tim Cohoon a senior  at Morningside College from Buffalo, Wyoming majoring in Marketing and Adverting with a minor in Legal Studies.  Tim as an individual would like to describe himself as a very opinionated person who doesn’t like to sugar coat things.

A memorable time where he was honest about his opinion was when he was in the cafeteria at a lunch table with friends he mentioned how he despised tipping and doesn’t understand it.  As a customer he expects to receive great service, ” No use in paying extra for service. When you look like you can’t afford you get less service.”

But as an honest person, this could help Tim in his career tell others when they aren’t doing their work correctly. When others don’t feeling confronting a person at work, Tim could be the person to be able to do that.
