News Comment 12/2

This story is about students at Arizona State University protesting Kyle Rittenhouse attending class there. The students protesting against Rittenhouse was led by a Socialist group on campus. They claimed that the verdict on Rittenhouse does not matter because the American justice system was founded in slavery and racism. Proponents for Rittenhouse that showed up were highlighting the fact that there was ample evidence to show that Rittenhouse acted in self-defense and should not be ostracized. This is newsworthy because it highlights the social tensions in the United States and Rittenhouse was a high profile case. The audience is anyone interested in social issues in America. The lead is well written but the body of work seems hasty, definitely some biased writing. Like highlighting a guy holding a “Death 2 America” sign, when that has nothing to do with the actual issue, that person was just an outlier. Otherwise the story would have been written from a completely different point of view.

  1. How/When did Rittenhouse’s trial become about racism?

Rittenhouse should probably get used to this sort of notoriety.
Not a lot of coverage of this outside Arizona. Should it have
    been, do you think?
