Lead Exercise 4

1. Gas Station owner decides not to use his firearm during robbery because of his troubled past:

Last night Barney Joseph, Jr, the owner of BJ’s drug was robbed for almost 400 dollars. The two robbers rushed into the store armed and held Joseph at gunpoint. The whole ordeal only lasted a minute as the two robbers fled to their already running car.

The story gets interesting because Barney Joseph said that he had a pistol under the counter, but decided not to use it. Almost 25 years ago in the same store, Barney’s father was shot to death in a similar hold up.

When asked about the situation Barney Joseph made it clear that he would much rather part with his money than his wife.

2. Suspected arson leads to 15 dead horses:

At roughly 4 A.M., Suffolk Downs Racing Track was burnt down. The one story wood building stabled 25 horses and 15 of those horses died due to the fire. 2 of the 10 horses that survived made an incredible exit by stampeding through the barnyard with their backs on fire.

The fire remains a mystery and what even more strange is the timing because it happened one day before racing season was set to start. Albert Ramos, a jockey from Miami, said that the horses are his best and he feels like he wants to cry.

The fire started in the middle of the barn and not at the end which makes the arson squad suspect foul play. Even fire chief Jim Connery said that this fire is definitely suspicious.

  1. Fuglsang says:

Gas station owner? Don’t lose the drama: Two armed men in ski masks robbed BJ’s drug last night while holding the owner at gunpoint. I like the way you paraphrase the quote in the last sentence.

Downs is not a when story, unless you begin “the day before racing season.” Other details OK.
