Battle of words between Darrelle Revis and Randy Moss

Its only week two and once again Darrelle Revis is the topic of conversation in the NFL. Last week, Revis was a topic of discussion because he finally ended his month long holdout.

This week Revis has made comments directed towards Randy Moss. Revis, the game’s top defensive back, called Randy Moss a “slouch.”

For those of you who don’t follow football these two players are both extremely good. Randy Moss, a wide receiver for the New England Patriots, has made the Pro Bowl seven times and at age 33 he’s still one of the best recievers in the game.

Darrelle Revis, a third year player with the New York Jets, is without a doubt the top defensive back in the game. The 25 year old is notorious for shutting down top receivers every week and has been called the best defensive back in over a decade.

This is newsworthy because on Sunday the Patriots visit the Jets and everyone will see how this battle of words turns out. Randy Moss didn’t add fuel to the fire, but when asked about Revis’s comments he said, “I guess he’ll get 60 minutes of this slouch on Sunday.”

A good example of how the media plays up conflict — and how coaches and athletes use it — to create/feed viewer interest in games.
