Melo to the Bulls?

It seems like the recipe for success in the NBA is for a team to have a “big 3.” Any team that has 3 all star caliber players can be referred to as a team with a big 3. In 2008, the Boston Celtics got their big 3 when they signed Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to play alongside Paul Pierce. Signing those 3 players worked out as the Boston Celtics ended up winning it all that year. This past year, the Los Angeles Lakers realized that they needed to add another top player to their team and did so when they signed Ron Artest to play alongside Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. This big 3 was also successful as they were the NBA champions this past summer. In July, the Miami Heat put together what could be the most dominant big 3 ever when they signed Lebron James and Chris Bosh to go along with Dwyane Wade. Anyway you look at it, it seems like the power of 3 is the way to win in the NBA.

The reason that I’m talking about all these successful teams that have added 3 top players is because right now the Chicago Bulls are trying to do the same. This past summer the Chicago Bulls signed all-star power forward Carlos Boozer in hopes that he and Derrick Rose could make the Bulls contenders again. Now, rumors have been swirling around that the Bulls are trying to trade for Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets. “Melo” has taken the Nuggets to the playoffs all seven years that he has played for them and he has been an all-star 6 of those 7 years. Carmelo is coming off his best year in his career this past year, averaging 28 points per game so there is no doubt that adding him will make the Bulls one of the top teams in the NBA.

I chose to do this topic because it is interesting and can relate to people of this area because after the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Chicago Bulls are the closest team. It’s also big news for anyone in the country who follows the NBA because at 26 years old, Carmelo Anthony is arguably one of the best players in the game today. If Anthony joins the Chicago Bulls, don’t be surprised if they make some noise this season and make it to the NBA Finals.

Sports fans sure love to discuss rumors. What is the real likelihood the Bulls
will spend the money? Three superstars don’t come cheap.

It would be expensive, but if anyone wants to beat the Heat in the next 5 years they’re going to have to spend some money.
