On December 7, 2023 at 8:50 am, an explosion occurred at Mega City Mall. 

Two people have been found dead and along with multiple injuries. The fatalities will not be released at this time until the families are notified. 

Sergeant Fuglsang states, “At this time, we have no credible evidence that the explosion was anything but an accident. We are not making any assumptions.”

Frisky Kreme Donuts and Penny Dreadful have been reported with major damages Along with minor damages to the Mega City 17 Theaters.

The mall was filled with many employees and mall walkers. 

Jesus, a Victor’s Secret Employee states, “I was getting the store ready to open when I heard the explosion. I was immediately told to evacuate the mall.”

The explosion occurred near the food court. 

The food court custodian, Isabel states, “I heard the explosion, then I saw things flying around. I was very scared.”

The mall wants to emphasize to their employees and patrons, “Today our thoughts and prayers are with those who were injured, and with their families. Mall staff are working hand in hand with police and law enforcement to sort out this morning’s events. We will find answers and we will keep the public informed of our investigation. For the moment, however, the mall will be closed until engineers can assess the stability of the mall’s structure. Be assure, however, the mall will reopen in time for everyone to complete their holiday shopping. The holidays are an important time for families to come together and celebrate the season.”

The investigation on the explosion is ongoing. The Mega City Police Department has established a special team of investigators that will work alongside federal law enforcement agencies.

I would consider this story news. It is a very exciting and something that does not happen on an everyday basis. The potential audiences would be students, prospective students/parents, staff/faculty, and the community. The purpose of the story was to inform the audience about the record Morningside University recently set enrollment record for international students. The story makes the readers feel good about Morningside University as a whole. It ensures students and prospective students it is a good college to go to. Morningside University as a whole gains a positive image from this news story.

The Midland Zoo is mourning the loss of their oldest bear at the zoo, Homer. Polar bears have found a home at the zoo since 1985. The Midland Zoo’s top priority is the safety of their animals.

The two other polar bears a being monitored very closely by veterinary staff. The incident will be investigated to determine the exact cause of the death.

Director of the Midland Zoo, Chris. P Bacon states, “We will do everything in our power to determine how this bear died. Animal welfare and preservation of species are our primary goals here at the zoo.”

Although there has been two other animals that have died this month, their deaths are not related.

Megan is ambitious on and off the basketball court. Playing basketball may not have been her original plan for her college career. In high school, she thought she didn’t want to play college basketball. After her high school basketball season came to end, she knew she didn’t want to end her basketball career. She decided to commit to Morningside University for basketball.

Megan is happy with her decision. She really enjoys the team atmosphere. She is willing to do whatever it takes to win. Megan is ambitious because of her drive to continue working hard towards her basketball career.

Matthew Perry was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles. Perry played Chandler in the show Friends. He was known as the yippie of the group and known for his humor. However, behind the scenes of Friends Perry struggled with substance abuse. He spent more than half of his life in rehab and treatment facilities. Perry has dealt with many health issues related to his substance abuse throughout his life.

A pilot affiliated with Alaska Airlines was arrested Sunday evening after trying to disable the aircraft engine. Joseph D. Emerson was riding in the cockpit jump seat when he tried to disrupt the operations of the engines. However, the captain and first officer responded quickly and ensured the engine would not run out of power. The Federal Aviation Administration encourages flight crews and carriers to remain aware. Emerson was booked in a local jail on 83 counts of attempted murder, as well as charges of reckless endangerment and endangering an aircraft.

The war between Hamas and Israel is affecting people in the United States as well. In Chicago, Joseph Czuba stabbed two individuals, a mother and son. Czuba was the landlord to the individuals. The mother survived and is in the hospital with serious conditions. However, the six-year-old son did not make it. The stabbing was motivated by the fact the the mother and son were muslims. Czuba was charged with  first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two hate-crime counts and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

I found this news article to be very interesting. It was very well-written. The article is definitely considered news because it covers a very tragic story about a 6-year-old boy and his mother being stabbed. The article’s lead was also very sufficient.
