News Comment #10: Biden’s Message on Climate Might Not Be the One the World Wants

America is currently receiving a lot of criticism about their lack of involvement in fighting climate change. In 2020 the US gave just 5 percent of what it should have contributed.

On Friday at the COP27, the president is expected to hail the new U.S. climate law. However, other countries want to talk money and how America needs to do better. France’s President, Macron, says “Europeans are paying,” he said. “We are the only ones paying.”

A lot of the reasoning behind these results are due to the politics. If Republicans are in charge come January, there will be less money, to help foreign nations cope with climate change, and it will slow down Biden’s agenda for climate. Several countries express they understand that it is hard for America, because of their politics. African leaders says “We’ve always understood the Congress is difficult. But do the American people not understand what’s happening to the planet?’”

USA is one of the leading countries when it comes to pollution, which is also why it is receiving more criticism. “They tend to promise a lot, pledge a lot, but deliver very little.” said Richard Sherman, the lead negotiator for an African bloc of nations.

This article gives a lot of information on how the world’s leaders views America’s contributions to the fight against climate change. It is an easy read, but very long. Personally, I feel a lot of people will lose interest in the article not even halfway-through. When strictly looking at the content of the article it is good and informational in my opinion, but it needs to be shorter to reach more readers.
