My Opinions On Frazer

After going through all of the theorist’s views on religion I think that Frazer has a very interesting idea about religion and where it came from, and how it will turn out. James George Frazer has a very practical and different view of religion. Even though his theory recognizes the human potential of thought, I disagree with Frazer’s idea that religion is a rejection of magic and that it will eventually turn into science. I believe that magic was looked at as a part of religion but I do not believe that Religion is a rejection of magic. Science and religion can co- exist and it does not have to be one or the other.  Science is something that people have started to resort to for many different things.  Medicine, our solar system, information about our environment, and weather are things that religion can’t tell you.  Science only goes so far then comes religion. Believing in God and having faith gives most people a sense of purpose. In my opinion religion will not go extinct because of the faith most people share in a higher power. Even though science has come a long way religion gives me something to believe in, and it will continue to give me something to believe in due to the sense of purpose it empowers in me.

One Response to My Opinions On Frazer

  1. Jennie Vagher says:

Like you, I agree that Frazer has a very practical and realistic view on Religion. And also like you, I believe that religion and science can co exist. Unfortunately, not too many people share this same opinion that they can coexist, and there are debates as to why they cannot exist side-by-side. Many people say that they cannot coexist because science is based off of observations, while religion is not. The beliefs that religion is founded on have been debunked by science and it is hard to create a unified system where these beliefs can exist with the observations in which science is established with. However, science and religion are already prevalent in today’s society together, so they can be synchronized together and one does not have to replace the other in the future.
