When it comes to game time Kamden Steffen plays all around the basketball court. He is shooting guard, point guard, and shooting forward. Kamden has had many lasting memories throughout his life as a year round basketball player. He says, “One of my favorite memories is when I juked the Akron teams forward and broke his ankles on live television.” Channel 4 news broadcasted this moment of the game for all to see.

Kamden Steffen is son of Jared and Kristin Steffen. He grew up in Remsen, Iowa where he plays varsity basketball for his high school, Marcus-Meriden -Cleghorn-Remsen-Union. Kamden’s passion for basketball has grown ever since first grade city league. His mother Kristin says, “Ever since he was little you could find Kam with a basketball in his hands. Matter of fact I can’t think of a time where he wasn’t outside shooting hoops.” Since then Kamden has been on four different AAU teams: Showtime Hoopers, Eagles United, Sioux City Extreme, and Sioux City Arena. Adding up to a total of eight years of basketball with out a single off-season.

Last year, as a freshman on varsity, Kamden scored a total of 321 points towards his high school basketball career, averaging 14.6 points per game. He lead his team with a total of 142 rebounds, 23 blocks, 41 steals, and 32 assists. Kamden has a field goal percentage of 48.2 and a 3-pointer percentage of 34.5. When it comes to free throws Kamden has a free throw percentage of 64.1.

Kamden’s teammate, KC Nicks, says, “Kamden is an awesome all around player. It would be really hard to play any of our games without him.” His other teammate Preston Astidias says, “As an athlete he is the least selfish person I know. We can always count on him to show up to each and every game and give his all.”

To further his career Kamden hopes to beat the school’s record of 46 points in a single game and he is working towards 1,500 total points in his overall high school career. After high school Kamden hopes to continue his career in basketball at the college level. He doesn’t have any specific college in mind, but is hoping for the opportunity to advance his skills and have the opportunity of experiencing the honor of getting to play for a college team.

Kamden’s coach Cam Kuchel says, “You know it has been an honor getting to work with such a talented young athlete. Watching him grow and get better at every practice and game is honestly so rewarding. There is no doubt in my mind that this kid won’t go somewhere someday, because once he sets his mind to something there will be no stopping him.” With no end for this kids passion for basketball in sight, he will continue to work on and advance his basketball career but as for now you can see Kamden repping numbers 0 and 1 at MMCRU high school this upcoming season.
