Proposal Essay- Should athletes leave early?

Filed under: Writing to Persuade 2011 —— Jordan Jacupke @ 9:04 AM

Proposal Outline-
Student athletes in college should not be allowed to leave until the conclusion of their junior year.

REASONS WHY?
Keeps NCAA sports competitive and allows older athletes to “teach” younger athletes.
Most athletes in D1 either play right away or red shirt, so by the end of their junior season they are almost ready to graduate which leaves them with a backup plan if sports don’t work out.
I can use this year’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament as an example, the smaller conferences have older more experienced players that allowed teams like Butler and Virginia Commonwealth to make the final four and kill my bracket.
REASONS WHY NOT?
(This is an example article as to why students should be allowed to leave school early.)
Leaving school for Professional Sports

I think this is a growing issue in the U.S. today and needs to be looked at. NCAA baseball has already taken action and put a stop to athletes leaving for the draft before their 3rd year of school. This is a step in the right direction. Hopefully someday the NCAA will decide to make this mandatory for all sports, but mainly football and basketball.
