Non Western Religions
Learning about these new religions is a little difficult for me. They are kind of are hard wrap my head around. Compared to what I am used to these just seem so…. I don’t know, abstract? You can make your own God and everything is the same thing. I just think it is going to be a little confusing for me.
Today in class I was in the group that talked about myths. I think the most interesting myth I read about was the myth of King Vikramaditya and Prayaga. King Vikramaditya met a man named Prayaga, who had very black skin. After bathing in Ayodhya’s sacred river, he came out of the water with completely white skin. The King wondered what happened. Prayaga told him that his skin was so black because he had absorbed so many human’s sins. I liked this story; I think I liked it because it reminded me of Christianity and how Jesus died for our sins.
I will definitely have to learn to make better connections this semester in order to understand these religions.

I enjoyed going on our little mock pilgrimage today. I think that I remember infromation better when I do hands on activities instead of sitting in a classroom.
I think the most important part of a pilgrimage to Mecca is standing on hill and reflecting about the end of the world and being judged on Judgement Day. Standing there for a whole day would be difficult, I don’t think I could stand still all day. I could deal with the silence but I would rather walk around and reflect on things not just stand there without moving. I can understand why people come back from a pilgrimage a changed person. All that time to think about life and recreating all the scences from the past would be a pretty intense experience!
