Cyber Attack Will Cause Disruption for Clorox Wipe Customers (News Comment #4)
September 19, 2023 | | 1 Comment
The Clorox wipe market has been disrupted, not by a pandemic, but by a cyberattack.
The Clorox company announced on Monday that it had noticed unauthorized activity on some of its systems. This forced the company to file and process orders manually, rather than using their advanced technology. This will slow down their ability to pump their products out drastically.
Clorox expects their production to go back to its regular automated process by next week, but the long-term effects of the attack are still unknown.
“We have resumed production, getting certain shipments out the door, and are remaining in constant contact with customers about their immediate needs,” Clorox said, per The New York Times.
This article had really great structure to it and was a good example of the upside-down triangle in my opinion. I also enjoyed how the article just gave the facts and did not make the situation overly dramatic. Yes, this is still big news but it’s not like anyone tragically died.
The reason why I think it is still news is because of the timing of the situation. Clorox is a very popular brand and with flu season coming up, people are going to be purchasing their products more often. This attack will have consequences whether its higher prices or less products, but it will affect a lot of people either way.

It’s pretty short by NYT standards. It’s interesting the lead makes a link to flu season, and by extension future COVID issues.
