Homer, a 16 year old Polar Bear at the Midland Zoo, was found dead in his exhibit early this morning.

He was found by zookeepers about an hour after his normal morning feeding. He was the oldest bear at the Midland Zoo. Zoo veterinarian Dr. Shanda Lear had this to say about Homer’s death, “We will perform a necropsy to try to determine the cause of death.”

Zoo director Chris Bacon added this, “We will do everything in our power to determine how this bear died.”

It’s safe to say that the Zoo is doing everything in their power to find out the cause of death for Homer, who was the oldest Polar Bear they had. The Zoo has had two other animals die in the past three weeks, but say that the deaths have been unrelated. The two other polar bears, ages 9 and 10, have been removed from the exhibit and are being monitored by veterinary staff.
