Our first story tonight covers how marine biologists are helping our endangered coral reefs stay alive.
Methods such as using fake fog, “re-skinning”, and “sea-weeding” are all helping our coral reefs survive.
Erin Muller, a marine biologist, says that things such as extreme heat, hurricanes, and infectious diseases have all led to the coral reefs being destroyed. All over the planet, our reefs are taking massive hits.
Muller says, “We’ve lost 98 percent of our living coral cover.” She added that reefs across the globe including near Florida, Australia, and the Caribbean are being affected.
Sea weeding is one way in which marine biologists are attempting to save the reefs. By doing so, the spreading of bacteria can be prevented. “re-skinning” is when small bits of coral are grown in a lab and transported onto reef skeletons, which brings dead ecosystems back to life. Fake fog is used to create shade for the reefs, reducing stress on them and in turn promoting growth.

Our next story is on the Men’s soccer GPAC championship game.
The Morningside Mustangs took on the Northwestern Red Raiders in the 2023 GPAC title game. It was a cold night in Orange City, but that did not stop the players from putting on a show.
Possession was back and forth for the first 40 minutes of action, until the Raiders struck first. In the 44th minute of action, Northwestern’s Gerrard Uamai found the back of the net. The Raiders took this momentum into the second half, where the raiders netted one again in the 74th minute.
The Mustangs battled back, with Carlo Schmidt scoring in the 76th minute. The comeback fell just short, and the final score was 2-1 with the Red Raiders hoisting the championship trophy.
Junior Mustang forward Levi Von Hagen has this to say on the match, INSERT QUOTE HERE
