Harvard Students Doxxed After Anti-Israel Letter
October 18, 2023 | | 1 Comment
Hundreds of students at Harvard came together and published a letter claiming that Israel was “entirely responsible” for the violence going on in the Middle East. Other students quickly retaliated and started sending threats to these students.
Although the article did not include names of students involved, people found out who was apart of it and took action. Dozens had their personal information leaked online and received open threats. A digital billboard, paid for by a conservative group, was seen on campus showing student photos and names who were involved. There was also a message reading, “Harvard’s Leading Antisemites.”
Harvard is facing a lot of backlash after this, with people questioning their right to free speech on campus. Donors are backing out, board members are leaving, and Harvard’s reputation as a whole is being second guessed. The article goes on in detail about the letter itself and how the students who posted it wanted it to be as confidential as possible.
I think this article was very well written, and very relatable for any college age person. I feel like the audience here is college age people, yes the topic is very relevant but there is also a bigger concern on hand. That concern is free speech, especially on college campuses. Many people already don’t voice their beliefs based on fear of what others will think, and this situation has made it worse in my opinion. This article does a good job of focusing on both the situation specifically as well as the bigger situation of free speech. The writer also executed the inverse pyramid well, which makes it an easier read.

We had this exact discussion in my CIC class this morning. People believe in free speech, but only as long as they agree with it. Having the First Amendment isn’t all that useful if people are afraid to actually voice their opinion.
