Unlikely Disciple

I really enjoyed reading Unlikely Disciple a lot more than I thought I would. I thought it was really nice that he was so open-minded and tried to get a long with everyone even though he did have some different beliefs. This book made me surprised that there are still universities out there that are so strict. I visited the Liberty University website and it looked like any other college site. I would never have guessed that the school would have so many requirements and rules to follow. I think this book would be really good to read if you were thinking about going to Liberty because of how he describes daily life on campus.

Kevin definitely had a pilgrimage according to both the Eliade and Turner model. He wouldn’t have if this experience hadn’t changed him. I think that every college student should read this book whether they are christian or not because maybe there would be less of a stereotype and barrier between people that have different beliefs.

    Hey Callie!
I agree with you on Unlikely Disciple. I think it was a clever book and more pleasant to read than I was anticipating. I think it opens eyes and humanizes extremely conservative Christians. I am glad you visited the Liberty website, I didn’t even think to do that myself. You also mentioned that people who are thinking of going to Liberty should read this book so they can get a feel for what everyday life would be like on campus. That made me think, I wonder what a book about Morningside would be like and if there are things people would question or admire about us!
    Great post!

    Hello,

I agree with you about the book “Unlikely Disciple” by Kevin Roose. I did not expect either for it to be so interesting and pleasant to read. The way Kevin had written it and the story it carried inside were really nice. I taught me not to be judgmental about books before first reading them. I was too so surprised with the way Liberty University operates. I cannot imagine ever attending a school like that.

I agree with everything you had to say about the book. When I first heard we had to read a book, I was not looking forward to starting it, however once I did start reading it I realized that it was a pretty interesting story. I admire Kevin for being able to and willing to adapt in the ways that he did. Around the time I read the story is when we learned about the Turner and Eliade models and this story really helped me find a clear understanding of what each model was.
