A Look Inside Morningside: Student Spotlight

Spencer Eiseman originally came to Morningside College to play soccer. However, his plans changed when a medical condition came up and he was forced to hang up his soccer cleats his freshman year.

Even though he had initially came here for the soccer program, he stayed afterwards the education and opportunities that Morningside College had to offer him.

“I’ve grown as a leader since coming to campus,” said Spencer. “I am now the Vice President of Student Government, the President of MAC, and a second-year Resident Assistant.”

Besides having leadership roles in Student Government and MAC, Spencer’s leadership and determination drove him to start up a new athletic program for Morningside College.

It was awhile after he had to stop playing soccer that Spencer approached Tim Jager, Morningside College’s athletic director, to talk about starting up a new athletic program. They met multiple times to discuss the idea of starting a men’s volleyball team.

“Tim was on board right away,” said Spencer.

The new men’s volleyball team started off their first Varsity season with a home game January 10, which they won 3-1. The team is made up of 16 men, including Spencer who is a defensive specialist and setter.

Spencer may have had to retire his soccer cleats but he got to experience starting up a new program and gear up for it.

Spencer is currently a senior but anticipates graduating next May 2016. He is working towards a double major in photography and business with a minor in graphic design. After graduation, he plans on continuing his education to pursue a Master’s Degree in Student Affairs/Higher Education. He hopes to end up working as a Dean or Vice President at a college someday.
