Examples for 4/16
This can either be seen as an abundance of pollution and things need to be changed or as a positive for the booming industry businesses.
Photo that makes you feel a certain way
This photo makes Trayvon Martin appear like an innocent kid and George Zimmerman as a mean criminal. However, it does not give any information about how Martin had previous threatened and attacked Zimmerman. It is misleading.
As far as the photo being used more for aesthetic value, I have to go with the example from Jerry with the homeless people being shadows. It was more art than journalistic.

A man and his planes: Andrew Snyder
- Statue of Colonel Bud Day at SIoux Gateway Airport where Snyder works maintenance. “He’s a big inspiration,” said Snyder.

- Snyder patrolling the runway at Sioux Gateway Airport. “Anything that has to do with planes, I’ll do it. My grandpa was a pilot, my two uncles are pilots, and my dad is a pilot. It runs in the family,” said Snyder. “I mean, how I could not be a pilot, too? It’s a family thing.”
- Snyder adjusting equipment that determines runway traction and sends information to Chicago O’Hare Airport.
- Snyder laces his boots before drill at the Iowa 185th Refueling Wing of the Air National Guard.
- “I’m proud to be a member of the military. I get to fulfill my duty and enjoy my love of airplanes working as a crew chief on the tankers.”
- KC-135r tankers lined up at the 185th Air Refueling Wing, Snyder’s base.

Visual Journal
- My typical school day starts off with a groggy look at the clock after shutting off my alarm.
- My next step after I drag myself out of bed is to feed my betta fish Flipper, who is a rescue fish that was dumped in another betta’s bowl. All of his fins were eaten when I got him, and he could only flip and roll over. Hence, the name Flipper.
- After I feed my fish, I feed myself to prepare for an educational morning of photojournalism and media ethics.
- I head on out to Bessie, my 2003 Dodge Stratus. Bessie, my loyal steed, always makes sure I arrive safely and slightly late to photojournalism every Tuesday and Thursday morning.
- Next, I arrive at the library where my classes for the day are held.
- After a long morning of classes, I drive home where I first check the mail to find nothing but junk and bills.
- Then, I release the hound Cocoa. She makes sure I never forget about her by barking and screaming as soon as she hears my car.
- Cocoa and I take a load off from our long morning of laying in a cage and sitting through class, respectively.
- Usually, my boyfriend Andrew comes over to visit in the afternoon after he finishes class.
- Andrew and I generally spend the rest of our afternoon throwing frisbees for Cocoa.
My idea for this assignment was to give a general idea about what my average school day/afternoon is like. I think that my photos captured that pretty well, particularly the first one of the clock at 6:13 in the dark with only a lamp. I wish I had a PetSmart picture, but I don’t like going there if I don’t have to. I believe I told an accurate story of what the average school morning/afternoon is like, but I wish I had gotten a PetSmart picture because that is a normal part of my day, too.
After looking over these pictures again and having just experienced my routine, I feel as though I was successful in demonstrating this part of my life.

Final 12 Pictures
- Advertisement: Nothing will make your dog happier than Purina Pro Plan dog biscuits. Cocoa literally and figuratively stands behind her favorite treat.
- Animal: There are many positives associated with keeping cats exclusively indoors, such as a healthier and longer life, not to mention a thicker, more beautiful coat.
- Editorial: This winter season, many pets are left out in the cold, even when temperatures drop to the single digits or lower. Remember to bring your pets inside when your thermometer drops.
- Emotion: Cocoa experiences extreme dejection and embarrassment after being forced into wearing a hat. Unless it is for safety or comfort, dogs don’t appreciate wearing clothes or accessories.
- Environmental Portrait: Andrew Snyder, 22, of Cannon Falls, MN waxes his truck February 6th. This truck was Snyder’s first major purchase, and he takes great pride in taking care of it. “I just love my truck,” said Snyder.
- Food: Despite healthier and more vibrant options, the sugary, unhealthy snacks still dominate in today’s market.
- Human Interest: Andrew Snyder and Cocoa play outside one last time before the predicted snowstorm hits February 22nd with snow amounts potentially reaching one foot.
- Interior: This unusual-looking thermometer is filled with floating orbs that contain numbers. A fairly accurate temperature reading can be taken by reading the number on the lowest floating orb.
- Night: A cardinal stands out against the darkening sky in Sergeant Bluff, IA. Typically, birds spend nights in their nests for safety and shelter.
- Sports: LeAnn Kuester, Sergeant Bluff, IA, plays frisbee with her dog Cocoa January 22nd.
- Student Life: Morningside College students Liz McQuistan and Kelci Teut discuss matters in the English department at the Sigma Tau Delta meeting. Sigma Tau Delta is Morningside College’s English honor society.
- Weather: Skiers take advantage of the deep snow and warm sun at Lutsen Ski Resort in Lutsen, MN.
