Most Truthful photo

I chose this photo as the most truthful photo that I have taken. This is a picture of my father and his brothers and sisters. They took a group photo after my aunt Joyce’s funeral in October. I see this photo as truthful because it is the real grieving faces of my family. They are all trying to put on a smile for the picture, but you can see the pain in their smiles. Joyce is the sixth sibling they have lost, and although they know the pain of losing loved ones very well, they have not gotten used to it.

Sports have a lot of extra work that is not seen or really given much thought by fans of the game. Baseball players spend lots of time in batting cages working tirelessly to perfect their swings or prepare for a game-as shown here.

On The Job

Pictured is Carter Ades, a senior outfielder for Morningside’s baseball team. Carter eats a sub sandwich between games in a double-header against Adam State and Southwest Minnesota State University. One aspect of baseball that can be easily overlooked by a fan or observer is the nutrition needed by an athlete to perform at their best and have enough energy to get through a long day of games. Schools that do not have as much funding as a division 1 school have to resort to cheaper options that may not fulfull an athletes nutritional needs. This causes lots of stress on the body and makes an athlete extremely fatigued at the completion of their contests.

Sports

The Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) is a professional baseball league centered in South Korea. Many players who do not make it in Major League Baseball take their talents to Korea, such as Anthony Alford. Alford was in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization however never panned out, so he took his talents to the KT Wiz in the KBO. Alford is an outfielder and designated hitter. He hit a home run in his at bat after this photo was taken.

The Morningside baseball team prepares for a double header in Tucson, Arizona against Dickinson State. This game was played at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium which was used by the Chicago White Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks from 1998 to 2009 as a spring training facility. It is also the field where Randy Johnson infamously struck a pigeon with a pitch.

School Spirit

Wade Canaday is a senior right handed pitcher on the Morningside baseball team. Wade encouraged our team–and pitching staff specifically– to dye our mustaches black in an attempt to bring us together as a team and show our mustang pride. Wade decided to take this one step further by curling his mustache which he was praised for by opposing teams.

Simon Denny was in an extremely close game of Rocket League–an online game where you play soccer with cars– when he made an overtime goal to win 4-3. Simon has been playing rocket league for almost 6 years now. Simon’s skill has reached a point that he is considering joining the E-Sports team at Morningside.
