28 Chinese Air Force Planes were detected in the Taiwan Air Defense Zone

Taiwan’s defense ministry reported a worrisome escalation in regional tensions with 28 Chinese air force planes entering its air defense zone, including J-10 fighters. Some crossed into the Bashi Channel for drills with the Chinese aircraft carrier Shandong.

China’s defense ministry hadn’t responded at the time, while Taiwan followed standard protocols by monitoring, scrambling its own aircraft, and activating air defenses.

Earlier, Taiwan reported the Shandong’s entry into the western Pacific for training. Japan confirmed its presence, sending a destroyer to monitor, as jet fighters and helicopters practiced landing on the carrier.

Furthermore, over 20 Chinese warships, including advanced Type 055 destroyers, sailed through the Bashi Channel and Miyako Strait into the Pacific. This was viewed as a challenge to recent US and allied military activities in the region, highlighting China’s intent to control waters west of the first island chain.

Days prior, a US and Canadian warship sailed through the Taiwan Strait, coinciding with the G20 summit in India. Joint exercises were also held in the South China Sea.

China’s increased military presence around Taiwan reflects concerns about collaboration between Taiwan and the US, heightening regional tensions.
