Anecdote

Cedar Rapids is the city Jemar Lee grew up in, and in most cases it is easy to tell. Not only does his civil and proper nature reflect most city men and women who work in the tallest skyscraper downtown, but he fits the description of, for lack of better words “city boy,” almost to a tee. He takes pride in his wardrobe, a selection of plaid button up shirts, tight fitting blue jeans, and the occasional nike sweatpant. Most would consider his daily clothing choice to be quite unusual for a college student.

This is fine as description, Tatum, but it’s not an anecdote yet. You want a story that will reflect the frame you choose for Mr. Lee.

“Civil and proper” sounds interesting. Can he provide a story that would fit that description? Was there a moment in that skyscraper when he realized, “Yeah, I’m a proper Iowan.”

Or maybe it’s a matter of showing he’s not quite like other college students — unique? — because of the way he dresses. (Jeans, sweatpants, and shirts does describe 90 percent of students, though.) Maybe describe him looking through his wardrobe” to come up with just the right ensemble for a day of Morningside classes.
