The National Safety Transportation Board was immediately dispatched to investigate the scene. Of the 55 reported dead the investigation found 42 bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An eyewitness shared the feeling of shock they had watching the plane rapidly descend into the residential district, plowing through multiple homes. They said &#8220;I couldn&#8217;t believe it. I thought surely it would go back up in the air. But it kept coming down&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the survivors shared the last words from the captain, &#8220;We are at 4000 feet and everything is going well&#8221; followed by sounds of the engine revving.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fifty-five dead when jet crashed into residential district in Townsville.
