Science Story

With Covid-19 hitting many places throughout the world. The United Kingdom has seen a rise of a new super bug hitting their hospitals this year.

The new super bug name is Candida Auris it’s a pathogen that can evade drugs made to kill it. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic it has help propel infection rates this year. With people being in and out of the hospital because of COVID.

According to Tom Chiller head of the mycotic diseases branch at the U.S CDC says ” We’ve also seen it get into some of the acute care hospitals and also into some COVID-19 units…The Concern there is that once it sets up shop in a place it’s hard to get rid of.”

The super bug sticks to any surface allowing it to colonize faster than some other diseases. With this out break C. Auris is becoming more common in hospitals making the growth of the superbug seem unlikely to stop anytime soon.

News Comment 10/29

I did my new comment about the NBA leagues revenue dropping by a whopping 10%.

This happen because of the Coronavirus pandemic with a total loss in gate receipts of 800 million. With 4000 million loss in Sponsorships and merchandise with China. Making the league reevaluate the scary cap for this year baseball season.

Overall the story is very well written with a lot of detail on how the league is trying to overcome this situation that they see themselves in this year. Only thing that I wish they had was so quotes from the commissioner about what he thinks might happen in the coming months as they are trying to get a new restart date for the new season.

Media Comparison

My story is on the Briar Cliff University new baseball field. Where they are getting new turf and revamping their whole facility by the spring of 2021.

For the Video version of this is was about few minutes long. They introduce the coach and explain how it was not possible for this to happen without the support of the alumni. Their donations to the program help better the field and help create a better experience for the players to practice on. With the improvement to the field they will be able to host more home games for the program which is really helpful. But, the quality of the video Briar Cliff posted was not that good making it very hard to hear exactly what exactly each person speaking said.

The written out version on the other hand did give some information that I did not hear on the audio version. Example of this would be the Briar Cliff is the first Sioux City team with infield turf. Making them a local leader in the sport with having other improvement like a team club house which was built in 2016. Plus the press box which was built in 2018.

If you wanted to get more information about the source I would use the written sources because it just allows for the press to give out more information. The video version is sometimes hard to understand or is something to grab your attention. Making you go to the written sources to get more information about what is going on from the video. Making me understand that if I find the video of the news interesting I should look up the written version of it to get more details about what might be going on.

I look at the story about Stan Van Gundy agreeing to a multiyear deal to be the new coach of Orleans Pelicans.

I went into his record for his overall coaching of the 11 season he has been in the league. Showing how the teams Gundy has coach to be in the top half of the league in defense.

Overall, I don’t really like to story it is very boring with not having any routes from the new head coach. The writer also did not get much information from the front office that hired him saying why he was the best choice to coach their young group of players.

Watch for Gesture Assignment

October 14th, 2020

I decided to watch the Mustang Grill people work tonight to see how crazy it could be in there at night. When I got there at 7pm the crew look like a bunch of rats scrambling around the kitchen trying to complete orders. One of them looking like the boss made movements like a robot putting up boxes on shelves for the pizza boxes. She was also barking out like people who were coming up to the counter to put their mask on even though most of the people eating I n their where not wearing masks at the table which was making a lot of the people mad at her not following her order.

The person on the grill was moving like a chicken with his head cut off running back a fourth from the grill to the freezer. While the other one was calling out names like one of those automatic phone calls. Saying out those names ever few seconds if people did not get their food.

Leaving the final one who was having conversation with everyone while they were working asking if they need help with anything while they were busy working. He was taking order making sure the orders where either taking down if they were done or putting them up if they were one of the newer ones. He also looks like one of those sue chefs who was always cutting of the produce making sure that they were always stock up on it. He also looking like one of those unlimited chocolate fountains when he was refilling out all the condiments.

Reading about the story about Conor McGregor accepting the fight in Jan. 23 to fight Dustin Poirier very interesting. McGregor Accepting this fight because Dustin Poirer is a south paw like Pacquiao.

McGregor wants to fight Pacquiao in the boxing ring after he fought Mayweather and lost in the 10th round in a TKO. After this fight McGregor is hoping to fight Pacquiao for a good sum of money with a little of it going to Charity.

Overall this story is well written with a little good quotes put into to make the story go better. I would want to have more content of why he wants to fight in boxing so much when he is a MMA fighter.

I like the article bout about how Patrick Mahomes was talking about having a mental slip up. For coming close to Stephon Gilmore who tested positive for Covid the day after the game.

This article is not really that news worthy for people who are not really fans of Patrick Mahomes. It is really for people who are wondering what might be going on in the NFL. With this news article being one of the big ones because Mahomes wife Is expecting their first child. If he by chance gets it from this altercation he could affect his home life plus his football.

Over all I like this article in general with good quotes on how Mahomes is dealing with this altercation. Only thing I would really life for this article would to be to give more information on what is the next step in helping preventing other players for doing the same thing.

Article #2 Final Draft

With the COVID-19 outbreak the Men’s Volleyball team is wondering if they are going to have a season this year. Head Coach for the Men’s Volleyball team Theison Anderson said, “We are still uncertain if our season is even going to happen because what is happening during the women’s season.”

Leaving the Men’s Team uncertain off when the season starts. Men’s Volleyball up to this point is waiting on GPAC commissioner approval of even having a season this summer. Talking to Tommy Looper, a senior, of the Men’s Volleyball team said, “ I was thinking about staying at Morningside for one more year and use my COVID year this year, but without even knowing if there is going to be a season I’m just going to graduate this fall and go back home”.

When talking to Head Coach Anderson about this he said, “I’m just going to have to get kids to come in the summer.”

With this Theison Anderson also said, “it has been hard to recruit assistant coaches to fill out the new coaching staff. Leading into who can drive cars for the trips when we go out of town. Not many people on the coaching staff want to go out of town because of COVID.”

Making the first-year coach look into more expensive options of travel in case the coach staff does not fill out by the time season starts for the Men’s Volleyball team.

It has been hard on the Men’s volleyball coach to bring in new recruit’s because many of them are afraid of catching COVID-19 by coming to the school. Talking to Jacob Campa, a freshman, of the Men’s Volleyball team, he said, “It sucks for the program because with having a new coach its hard on him to bring in kids for the team”.

Which is understandable since the Men’s Coach is in his first year here a Morningside. There is hope though that the men’s season might start up because of how the woman’s season is going.

Theison Anderson said, “With how the woman’s season going as it is. I was finally able to get the school to let you guys come back in January for preseason”.

The school was hesitating about letting the Men’s Volleyball Team back on campus early because the COVID outbreak. While also, trying to figure out how to cover the Men’s Volleyball team with food because during the break the contract with the food people does not apply during the break. It was able to get done though thanks to the woman’s season going by so well right now with not many teams backing out due to COVID.

During the practices new guidelines are going to be put into place to help stop the spread of COVID. During warmups people are required to wear a mask but, are allowed to take them off when we are about to start practice. With these new guidelines Coaches have to wear masks through the whole practice time.

If all goes according to plan the GPAC commissioner should be releasing a statement about how the Men’s volleyball season should go. Theison Anderson said, “we are all just waiting on the commissioner statement. When we get the ok from him that when the stress of knowing the season is a go will go away.”
