It currently has an 86% approval rating from
audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Machine Gun Kelly, Iwan
Rheon, Douglas Booth, and Daniel Webber play the band members of Motley Crue,
with great success. Visually, the actors look nearly identical to the original
members throughout most of the movie and it’s obvious they took the time to
memorize how the original members moved and performed to make the concert
moments convincing.

“The Dirt” is based off
of the biography written by the members of the band and it does a good job of
following the basic biopic style, showing band members struggles in life, their
eventual fallout, and either their make up or continued breakup. What made this
biopic different, however, was the actor’s commitment to breaking the fourth
wall and always speaking in first person. It made it seem like the audience was
along for the ride, which is a fun detail for fans.

The worst part of this
movie was undoubtedly the script writing and acting. A lot of the lines between
band members seemed cheesy and forced. It seems like the band is trying to
gloss over their bad behavior and hard times with a “bros will be bros”
mentality.

Despite the bad acting
and cringy, sexual, or downright gross moments, the music saves it. Every time
the band takes the stage and the first powerful chords transport you to that
grungy concert venue in the 80’s.

“The Dirt” is a truly
magical experience for fans of Motley Crue and I highly recommend it for those
who grew up with the band. I rate this movie an 8/10 for fans and a 4/10 for
non-fans.

By Lindsey Smith–Motley Crue’s new biopic “The Dirt” might be a terrible movie by today’s standards, but it’s a really fun ride for fans of the band.
