{"id":9908,"date":"2019-03-19T15:18:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-19T20:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/?p=9908"},"modified":"2019-03-19T15:18:00","modified_gmt":"2019-03-19T20:18:00","slug":"yoga-for-body-and-soul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/archives\/9908","title":{"rendered":"Yoga for Body and Soul"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Iandra Estupinian&#8211;<\/strong>Morningside College Wellness Committee is now offering\nlunchtime and evening yoga classes for both students and faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The yoga workshops are made for beginners and experienced\nstudents\/faculty who would like to pick up or learn yoga techniques.\nMorningside College advisor and 200-hour licensed instructor Katie Roskie, and\n200-hour licensed instructor Jianna Hoss will be teaching the classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/03\/pexels-photo-823694-800x800.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9909\" width=\"447\" height=\"447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/03\/pexels-photo-823694-800x800.jpeg 800w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/03\/pexels-photo-823694-200x200.jpeg 200w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/03\/pexels-photo-823694-400x400.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/03\/pexels-photo-823694-768x768.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/03\/pexels-photo-823694.jpeg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 447px) 100vw, 447px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The main goal of the yoga workshops is to manage stress\nlevels and give an alternative form of relief for those who don\u2019t want to\nparticipate in more intense sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur Wellness Committee has done a really great job of\ntrying to get these different programs started for students, faculty, and\nstaff,\u201d says Roskie. \u201cOur most important thing is maintaining our health and\npromote overall wellness beyond the physical.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The afternoon\/lunchtime classes will be offered until April\n24<sup>th<\/sup> and begin at 12:20 pm to 12:50 pm in the HPER dance room. This\nclass is considered the \u201cBeginners Yoga Class\u201d and will focus mainly on\ncreating stability and mobility in the body, as well as learning yoga\u2019s\nphilosophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The evening classes will be offered until May 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\nand begin at 5:30 pm to 6:15 pm in the HPER dance room. This class is a bit\nmore advanced than the afternoon classes but beginners are still welcome to\njoin this session. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both classes teach the yoga style-form of <em>Vinyasa<\/em>, which is a technique that\nteaches the body to relax and allows free movement. This form is highly\nrecommended for individuals who want to de-stress and work on both their mental\nand physical health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though these yoga classes have a specific goal, Roskie\nbelieves there is a type of yoga for everyone. \u201cEveryone\u2019s body is different.\nEverybody\u2019s lifestyle is different but yoga is definitely one of those things\nthat can fit everyone\u2019s needs,\u201d said Roskie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When attending the session, students and faculty will be\nasked to fill out a health waiver and are advised to bring their own yoga mats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Iandra Estupinian&#8211;Morningside College Wellness Committee is now offering lunchtime and evening yoga classes for both students and faculty.
