{"id":9906,"date":"2019-03-19T14:53:02","date_gmt":"2019-03-19T19:53:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/?p=9906"},"modified":"2019-03-19T14:53:02","modified_gmt":"2019-03-19T19:53:02","slug":"one-day-at-a-time-runs-out-of-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/archives\/9906","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;One Day At a Time&#8221; Runs Out of Days"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Iandra Estupinian&#8211;<\/strong>Netflix had made the decision to cancel their original, \u201cOne Day at a Time.\u201d Since its release in 2017, the Cuban-American family sitcom has become a hit amongst the Latino community for its authentic representation of Latin American lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.out.com\/sites\/out.com\/files\/2019\/03\/14\/onedatatatime-750x422-03.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for one day at a time\" width=\"502\" height=\"282\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne Day at a Time\u201d is an adaptation of Norman\nLear\u2019s comedy of the same name that Sony Studios produced in 1975. The show centers\naround a Cuban-American family with an ex-Army mother who raises her two\nchildren with the help of her Cuban mother. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through their daily lives, viewers witness\nthe racism, homophobia, and discrimination that Latin-Americans face while\nliving in America. The series was the first of Netflix\u2019s productions that delved\ninto U.S.-Latino based programming and used real Latin-American actors,\ndirectors, and producers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The show produced three full seasons but was\ncancelled before the fourth season was discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Netflix CEO, Ted Sarandos, tweeted last week about ending the show. \u201cIt\u2019s been a great honor to work with the legendary Norman Lear on \u201cOne Day at a Time.\u201d I\u2019ve personally spoken with Norman and co-creators Gloria Calderon Kellett and Mike Royce to express my gratitude to them, all the writers, the dedicated crew and the cast, including the brilliant Justina Machado and dazzling Rita Moreno, for creating a series with such humor, heart and humanity. This was a very difficult decision, and we\u2019re thankful to all the fans who\u2019ve supported the series, our partners at Sony and all the critics who embraced it. While it\u2019s disappointing that more viewers didn\u2019t discover One Day at a Time, I believe the series will stand the test of time.\u201d His comments garnered huge backlash from fans and the Latino community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Netflix claims to have cancelled the series\ndue to low viewership, but the positive feedback it received from viewers tells\na different story.
