By Grace Nordquist–<\/strong>On Feb. 13-16 the\nMorningside Men and Women\u2019s Swim Team competed in the Liberal Arts Championship\nConference Meet in Cedar Rapids, IA at Coe College. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Women\u2019s team finished sixth and\nthe Men\u2019s team just missed third by less than five points behind Coe College\nfor fourth place. This is the teams eleventh year going to the LAC meet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference is\nmade up of eight co-ed teams: Coe, Illinois Tech, Loras, Nebraska Wesleyan,\nLuther, Morningside, Simpson, and Principia. There are three Women\u2019s only\nteams: College of Saint Mary(CSM) , Minnesota- Morris, and Mills. In a\nconference made up of all Division lll teams, with the exception of College of\nSaint Mary (also NAIA), how did Morningside end up in the LAC?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

College of Saint Mary, Midland, and Morningside are the only teams who have swimming in the GPAC conference. Thus, Morningside had to look elsewhere to compete in a conference meet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morningside sought\nout the Liberal Arts conference eleven years ago. Head coach Bryan Farris\ncomments on competing in the LAC, \u201cIt\u2019s compatible. They\u2019re the type of teams\nwe want to compete against.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year was\nCSM\u2019s first year competing at the LAC meet, joining Morningside for NAIA teams.\nFor most of the other teams, none will qualify swimmers for their national\nmeet. The NCAA D3 cut times are faster, thus this is their last meet of the\nseason to break records and swim fast. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of this, Farris adds, \u201cThey\npush us to do better and qualify more for nationals.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qualify more they did. Morningside qualified the most the program has ever seen, with 21 swimmers heading down to the NAIA National Meet in Georgia Feb. 27- March 2. \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
