For the class of 2019, it would be the last time competing in their home field house. It was a special night for the Senior class, and they left their mark with a 47-4 win over Jamestown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"474\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/Wrestling.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9747\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/Wrestling.jpg 576w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/Wrestling-200x165.jpg 200w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/Wrestling-400x329.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Meet the Morningside wrestlers who\nhave put their blood, sweat, and tears into the intense sport of wrestling. The\ncountless years of waking up early, grinding in the weight and wrestling rooms,\nand cutting the weight will soon be memories for the 2019 graduating class.\nAmong those memories are some from their past years spent at Morningside. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Brendan Crews<\/strong> from La Vista, NE wrestles 157. Crews is a Business Administration and Advertising Major. Crews says his favorite Mustang memory is from the team retreat. He recalls the entire team getting together and playing a super competitive game of tackle football in the river. Crews comments, \u201cEven when we\u2019re just having fun we\u2019ve been bred to compete with each other.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"320\" height=\"213\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/IMG_3128.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9748\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/IMG_3128.jpeg 320w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/IMG_3128-200x133.jpeg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Caleb Deemer<\/strong> from Palmer AK\nwrestles at 197. Deemer is a Science Teaching and Special Education Major. His\nfavorite Morningside Wrestling memory was going to regionals Sophomore year. He\nnotes the team \u201cPut in a year\u2019s work to go battle it out to make it to\nnationals.\u201d Deemer takes pride in the team camaraderie, \u201cWe all knew that we put\nin the work and that the struggles we battled through made us stronger and\nbrought us closer together.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dakota Drenth<\/strong> is from Hartley, IA and wrestles at 149. Drenth is an\nElementary Education and Special Education Major. One of his favorite memories\nas a Mustang would have to be this year\u2019s team trip to Arizona. From climbing\nmountings to grinding in the wrestling room, Drenth says he enjoyed \u201cCompeting\nand training with the bros.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"320\" height=\"213\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/IMG_3145.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9749\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/IMG_3145.jpeg 320w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/IMG_3145-200x133.jpeg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Keegan Hessler<\/strong> from Scottsbluff, NE wrestles at 125. Hessler is a\nBusiness Administration major. His favorite memory as a Mustang comes from his\nSophomore year at the National tournament. After winning his match in the round\nof 12 to secure his title of \u201cAll-American,\u201d he was able to run up to his\nparents and celebrate the monumental win. Hessler admits, \u201cBeing able to\ncelebrate that special moment with them was amazing.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nickolas (Nic) Madsen<\/strong> from Le Mars, IA wrestles at 174. Madsen is a\nBusiness Administration major. He notes it\u2019s hard to choose one out of the many\nmemories he\u2019s gathered over the years, with so many different people. Madsen\nadds he wouldn\u2019t be the wrestler he is today without his past and present\ncoaches, as well as current and former teammates. Some of his favorite memories\nat Morningside come from wrestling with Logan Moore, Steven Garcia, Derik\nBailey and many more outstanding teammates who pushed Madsen to be the best he\ncould be. \u201cThose guys were perfect role models for what it takes to be a great\nwrestler, leader, and student.\u201d He notes they\u2019re key reasons as to how he got\nto where he is today. Madsen concludes, \u201cFurthermore, I had coaches that\nbelieved in me when I didn\u2019t believe in myself. So Coach Kruger, Hardman,\nRulin, Kac and Stevenson, thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lane Nichols<\/strong> from Hornick, IA wrestles at 141. Nichols is an\nApplied Agriculture and Food Studies Major. Nichols can\u2019t recall a favorite\nMustang memory but says he will not miss cutting\nweight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"320\" height=\"213\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/IMG_3208.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9750\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/IMG_3208.jpeg 320w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2019\/02\/IMG_3208-200x133.jpeg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Devin Phaly<\/strong> from Sergeant Bluff, IA wrestles 125. Phaly is an\nAdvertising major. He says he can\u2019t narrow it down to one simple memory from\nhis four years at Morningside. \u201cBeing able to grow, mature, and create lifelong\nfriends through a sport that we all work so hard together in has been the most\ninfluential memory at Morningside as a wrestler.\u201d\nPhaly adds there have been highs and lows throughout his career but he had\nteammates and coaches who helped him persevere and wanted him to succeed. Phaly\nreflects on his career saying, \u201cWins and losses aren\u2019t the things that will\nmatter the most at the end of my wrestling career, but the bonds I created and\nthe character it builds will last forever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Keagan Putnam<\/strong> from Sergeant Bluff, IA wrestles 165. Putnam is an\nElementary Education major. His favorite memory as a Mustang is similar to his\nteammates, describing the bond he created with them and the coaches. Putnam\ncomments on the group of seniors and how goal driven\nand supportive they are of one another, \u201cWe can count on each other.\u201d Putnam,\nlooking back says, \u201cEveryone pushes each other on the team and I have felt\nmyself grow so much in this sport from my freshman year to now. I love the\ncompetition that Morningside has brought me.\u201d Looking forward, Putnam hopes his\nfavorite memory is yet to come by achieving his goal of qualifying for\nnationals and becoming an All-American.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mustangs continue to prepare\nfor the GPAC tournament Feb. 16<sup>th<\/sup> with the goal of qualifying for\nthe National Tournament in March, where these seniors will make their final\ndebut.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Grace Nordquist&#8211;The Morningside Men\u2019s Wrestling team competed against the University of Jamestown Thursday, Jan. 31, in what would be their last home dual for the season.
