\"\"<\/a>by Maggie Ganley<\/strong> \u2013 Omicron Delta Kappa, an upperclassmen honor society on campus, elected Christina V\u00e1zquez as their leader of the year.<\/p>\n

V\u00e1zquez is ODK\u2019s secretary and is in charge of sending out emails about meetings and events.<\/p>\n

However, her work doesn\u2019t stop there. She was also in charge of all aspects of Mohana Rajakumar\u2019s stay on campus this spring, has planned a faculty dinner in the past, and helps out in any way she can.<\/p>\n

She feels inspired and intimidated by her nomination. \u201cIt\u2019s great that so many people consider me a leader. I feel like I don\u2019t match up to that yet, but now I really want to,\u201d V\u00e1zquez said.<\/p>\n

Madison Pierson, another member of ODK, believes V\u00e1zquez was a perfect fit for the position.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery group that I know she\u2019s been a part of she\u2019s always taken a leadership role in and wants to help people participate and understand. She just always takes the role of active leader in whatever she\u2019s doing,\u201d Pierson said.<\/p>\n

After her nomination to be Morningside\u2019s ODK leader of the year, she applied to be national ODK leader of the year as well.<\/p>\n

Applications were due March 1\u00a0and she will hear back about how she placed sometime this summer.<\/p>\n

Previous Morningside leaders have made the “final five.” She hopes to place in the final five as well and carry on the tradition.<\/p>\n

Reflecting back on her time in ODK, V\u00e1zquez said, \u201cODK has given me experiences working as a team and also as a leader.\u2026 I\u2019m inspired to do better at what I can do well and to try new things.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
