by Rachael Arnts–<\/strong>Last Friday, 18 mass communication students participated in College Radio Day.<\/p>\n

Each year, the College Radio Foundation hosts and encourages college radio stations across the country to participate in this one-day event. This was Morningside\u2019s first year participating in the\u00a0event.<\/p>\n

From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Morningside students broadcasted live on the college\u2019s radio station, Fusion 93 KMSC. DJs took shelter from the rain on the library patio. To encourage more listeners, anyone who passed by had the opportunity to enter into a door prize. One winner was announced on-air each hour.<\/p>\n

The DJs also got to pick their own themes for each hour. Themes included, sports talk shows and a variety of music. To celebrate Morningside\u2019s Homecoming week, throwback songs were also played.<\/p>\n

Senior Taylor DeVary is\u00a0KMSC\u2019s PSA and Promotions director. She saw this as an excellent opportunity to promote KMSC.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was interested in it and I told staff about it and they seemed pretty excited about it,\u201d said DeVary.<\/p>\n

Sophomore mass communication major\u00a0Dylan Ferguson was very excited to take part in College Radio Day.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a big passion for sharing new music with people. College radio is a great way for sharing my passion,\u201d said Ferguson.<\/p>\n

The day also turned out to be quite the social event. Mass comm students would stop by to support fellow classmates. Spontaneous dancing frequently followed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just really love hanging out with other Mass Comm students and just jamming out,\u201d said Ferguson.<\/p>\n

DeVary adds, \u201cMy favorite part is the fact that we get to celebrate college radio and hangout.\u201d<\/p>\n

Senior mass comm student Christina Vazquez isKMSC\u2019s Station Manager. She was pleasantly surprised on how the day played out.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am really happy with the turnout. I was concerned about not having many people but enough signed-up. 11 hours is very massive amount of time on-air,\u201d explains Vazquez.<\/p>\n

DeVary, Ferguson, and Vazquez all have their own radio shows that air on KMSC. DeVary\u2019s \u201cThe Underground\u201d airs Monday\u2019s from 11 a.m. to noon and from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday\u2019s, Thursday\u2019s, and\u00a0 Friday\u2019s. You can catch Ferguson\u2019s \u201cAlternative Afternoon\u201d on Thursday\u2019s from 1 to 3 p.m. He is also starting a new radio show that will feature jazz music on Sunday nights at 10. Tune into Vazquez\u2019s show on Monday\u2019s from noon to 3 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
