Consumers will decide if an upgrade is necessary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-8863\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2017\/09\/iphone-x-back-920x460-200x100.png\" alt=\"iphone-x-back-920x460\" width=\"200\" height=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2017\/09\/iphone-x-back-920x460-200x100.png 200w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2017\/09\/iphone-x-back-920x460-400x200.png 400w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2017\/09\/iphone-x-back-920x460-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2017\/09\/iphone-x-back-920x460-800x400.png 800w, https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2017\/09\/iphone-x-back-920x460.png 920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>by Christina Vazquez&#8211;<\/strong>Tech giant Apple recently announced new versions of their wildly popular iPhone.\u00a0 While the iPhone 8 is an upgrade from the previous 7 with greater capacity for data and wireless charging enabled, most eyes are on the newest version yet.<\/p>\n<p>The iPhone X, pronounced as 10, brings many new elements to the iPhone design.\u00a0 These include lack of a home button, which will require longtime iPhone users to adjust to new methods of controlling their device.\u00a0 There are also new and better camera specs than previous iPhone models, with a telephoto lens on the rear camera with a 2.4 aperture.<\/p>\n<p>What might be raising the most eyebrows about the newest design, however, is the face recognition technology.\u00a0 At first glance, it seems like a brilliant idea out of science fiction novels to unlock your phone with a mere look, but privacy concerns leave many uncomfortable with the new development.<\/p>\n<p>According to Electronic Frontier Foundation Senior Staff Attorney Adam Schwartz in an <a href=\"http:\/\/mashable.com\/2017\/08\/28\/trouble-facial-recognition-technology-smartphones\/#sXAZZWmjLOqU\">interview with Mashable<\/a>, the facial recognition the newest iPhone has will always be on, gathering data, whether or not the user intends it.\u00a0 Furthermore, the very fact that a large company has such detailed knowledge of one\u2019s face should prompt skepticism.\u00a0 Shwartz says, \u201cAbsolutely people should be concerned.\u00a0 What else is the company going to be doing with the face [scan]?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course, these concerns hinge on whether or not the application will actually do its job.\u00a0 During the unveiling of the latest product features, the presenter, Apple\u2019s Senior VP of Software Engineering Craig Federighi,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/video\/2017\/sep\/12\/apple-iphone-x-facial-recognition-face-id-fail-launch-video\">was unable to get the feature to work<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 After two attempts, Federighi was forced to use a backup in order to continue the presentation.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, loyal Android users are crying foul, claiming that Apple is merely copying designs and features already available in phones such as the Galaxy S8, including wireless charging, facial recognition, and an excellent camera, all for a much lower price tag than the $999 iPhone X.<\/p>\n<p>Is it worth the money, or is Apple merely trying to pull a fast one?\u00a0 Consumers will make the final decision when the product launches on November 3.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Christina Vazquez&#8211;Tech giant Apple recently announced new versions of their wildly popular iPhone.\u00a0 While the iPhone 8 is an upgrade from the previous 7 with greater capacity for data and wireless charging enabled, most eyes are on the newest version yet.
