(2.16.17) By Blake Meacham – The Morningside men\u2019s basketball team shot a hot 47% from the field Wednesday night against the No. 18 Briar Cliff Chargers, but couldn\u2019t stop the barrage of three-point field goals that sealed their fate in a 95-88 loss. The Chargers, who shot 54% from the field, including 49% from behind the arc, moved their win streak to nine. This is Morningside\u2019s first conference loss since Dakota Wesleyan handed them a 101-72 setback on January 26th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

With two minutes left in the game, the score was tied up at 85. A three-pointer from Briar Cliff\u2019s Erich Erdman gave the Chargers the lead, which they didn\u2019t give up for the rest of the game.<\/p>\n

Tyler Borchers led the Mustangs in points in rebounds, recording a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Borchers had a perfect shooting night, going nine-for-nine from the field and four-for-four from the charity stripe. Ryan Tegtmeier recorded 13 points, while Alex Borchers and Bryce Koch both tallied 11.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs, who are currently fifth in the GPAC standings, wrap up their regular season against Midland, who\u2019s currently in second place. The Mustangs are already starting to prepare for the conference tournament.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we come with the effort we had against Briar Cliff, I believe good things will happen. I\u2019ve seen some crazy things happen in the conference tournament so you never know,\u201d said Tegtmeier.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say the biggest key at this stage is to keep prepring hard and to stay sharp mentally, especially on defense,\u201d said sophomore guard Brody Egger.<\/p>\n
