{"id":7940,"date":"2016-04-27T13:13:10","date_gmt":"2016-04-27T18:13:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/?p=7940"},"modified":"2016-05-03T10:13:41","modified_gmt":"2016-05-03T15:13:41","slug":"mustang-football-spring-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/archives\/7940","title":{"rendered":"Mustang Football Spring Game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Shelby Small&#8211;<\/strong>Mustang football will take the field one last time before summer break on April 30th at Elwood Olsen Stadium. Kickoff will be at 11 a.m. with the game being free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe spring competition is a great time to let the guys show how hard they have worked this spring and all that they have accomplished,\u201d said Steve Ryan, head coach, explaining the purpose of the game. \u201cFor some players, it\u2019s a chance to show that it is time for them to play. For some players, it is a time to refine their skills.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the spring game does not predict the Fall Season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt really doesn\u2019t give you a full picture of how the team will look in the fall,&#8221; said Ryan. &#8220;As different combinations of guys are playing together and coaches are working on things, but it does give you a good look at individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each college may have a different way of doing their spring game, but Morningside&#8217;s spring game is more of a competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe call it a competition as we come up with a scoring system and the offense goes against the defense. For example, the offense gets a point for a first down and the defense gets two points for a sack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Coach Nate Turner commented on the 2016 recruiting class.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited about the group of recruits we have coming in the fall,&#8221; said Turner. &#8220;We think there are definitely some playmakers in that group and it is going to be exciting to get them here and see what they can do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ryan added, \u201cWe believe that our success in recent years has really helped with recruiting.\u00a0 We think we have an outstanding class of freshmen coming in, especially on the defensive line and wide receiver positions where we are set for some heavy graduation losses in the next couple years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Morningside football has a long tradition of excellence and fans and players alike are looking forward to the 2016 season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Shelby Small&#8211;Mustang football will take the field one last time before summer break on April 30th at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
