She spent her time at the college speaking to both students and the public. She went to several different classes, and held two public lectures.<\/p>\n<p>Cairncross is a former journalist for The Economist. She was also the Rector of Exeter College for Oxford from 2004 to 2014.\u00a0 After retiring from Oxford, she was made a Dame for her services to education and economics.
