In the Republican Party, Texas Senator Ted Cruz won with 27.6 percent and 8\u00a0delegates, surpassing businessman Donald Trump (24.3 percent) and Florida State Senator Marco\u00a0Rubio (23.1 percent), according to the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>In the Democratic Party, however, former United States Secretary of State\u00a0Hillary Clinton and United States Senator Bernie Sanders ended the caucus with a virtual tie,\u00a0Clinton at 49.9 percent and Sanders at 49.6 percent, according to the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>One Morningside student, Elizabeth Planck, caucused for Bernie Sanders at the Democratic Caucus.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was my first time caucusing, and there was a long wait and [it] kinda boring,&#8221; said Planck. This caucus drew some record numbers, a win for both parties.<\/p>\n<p>Not all of those who campaigned were winners. Democratic candidate and\u00a0former Maryland governor Martin O\u2019Malley suspended his campaign when he failed to gain\u00a0support from voters, ending the caucus with a meager 0.6 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Republican candidate and former\u00a0Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee has also called it quits, succeeding from the race after failing\u00a0to garner support.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Kayla Perkins&#8211;After a grueling night of anticipation, anxiety, and counting, the results of the 2016 Iowa\u00a0Caucus are in.
