{"id":6205,"date":"2014-09-09T12:10:01","date_gmt":"2014-09-09T17:10:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/?p=6205"},"modified":"2014-09-09T12:10:53","modified_gmt":"2014-09-09T17:10:53","slug":"classic-film-review-the-birds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/archives\/6205","title":{"rendered":"Classic Film Review: The Birds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2014\/09\/Birds.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6206\" alt=\"Birds\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2014\/09\/Birds.jpeg\" width=\"171\" height=\"294\" \/><\/a>By Nik Rasmussen&#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>For starters, I\u2019ve seen a lot of movies, and I mean <i>a lot<\/i> of movies; I\u2019ve seen many, in fact, that most people are not even aware of.\u00a0 Feeling the need to change up from the movies of today, I was shopping around and stumbled on the classic Alfred Hitchcock thriller <i>The Birds<\/i>.\u00a0 Though I knew of the film and the general content from seeing quick clips mixed in with others in a calash of classic works, I had never actually seen the movie.\u00a0 Being the film enthusiast that I am, I locked myself in a room with a fresh selection of snacks and turned off the lights and all means to contact the outside world for zero interruption.\u00a0 Alfred Hitchcock\u2019s 1960\u2019s film <i>The Birds<\/i> had me on edge, captivated from start to finish.<\/p>\n<p>The story starts off as an average day with that 1960\u2019s vibe you would expect.\u00a0 Most often in movies, the first half of the film is getting to know the characters so that you will care about them in danger later.\u00a0 Though <i>The Birds<\/i> did, in fact, follow this story structure, I found myself almost forgetting that the film was about large amounts of attacking birds. I would have forgotten completely if it were not for the small reminder of strange activity by birds hear and there.\u00a0 Unlike in most films, this was done successfully.\u00a0 Seeing the characters in a \u201cnormal\u201d world only reinforced the suspense and the need to know what or why these attacks were happening.<\/p>\n<p>I won\u2019t spoil the ending for you, but I can say after viewing nearly every film that one can recollect, Alfred Hitchcock\u2019s <i>The Birds<\/i> left me in absolute awe.\u00a0 As always, I strongly recommend that if you are watching the film for the first time, cut off communication to the outside world, grab some snacks and a drink, and turn off the lights.
