This year\u2019s symposium will consist of 163 independent or classroom research projects. The symposium will be held on Wednesday, April 9, in the Olsen Student Center.<\/p>\n<p>The Symposium will kick off at 7:45 a.m. in the Yockey Family Community Room of the Olsen Student Center with opening statements from Morningside\u2019s vice president of academic affairs and dean, William Deeds. The keynote speaker, Dana Dunn, will present his lecture, \u201cInsiders and Outsiders: The Social Psychology of Disability,\u201d at 12:45 p.m. in the UPS Auditorium of Lincoln Center.<\/p>\n<p>Dunn is currently working as a professor of psychology and the assistant dean for special projects at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. Dunn also writes a blog on teaching psychology called \u201cHead of the Class\u201d for Psychology Today. His studies examine teaching, learning and liberal education, as well as the social psychology of disability.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly Kanaan, a coordinator for the Symposium, touched on the importance of this one day event by saying, \u201cThe day of the Symposium provides for both the presenters and other Symposium participants a valuable learning experience outside of the classroom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Students will present research results through oral presentations, poster\u00a0presentations or panel discussions over any topic they choose. Kanaan said, \u201cThis year we have had more submissions then ever before with almost every discipline \u00a0represented.\u201d This year\u2019s topics range from \u201cThe Decline of Drew Carey\u201d to \u201cThe Fight for the Vote in Sioux City: Women\u2019s Suffrage Movement\u201d to a \u201cFloating Arm Trebuchet Exhibition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince this is a student run committee, we all have the opportunity to work with other students and faculty across campus to improve the quality and experience that Palmer brings,\u201d Kanaan said.<\/p>\n<p>The Palmer Student Research Symposium is coordinated by students Stephaney Eckhart, Kelly Kanaan, Kalee Gross, Kay Drenkhahn, Nick Misukanis, Megan Deichmann, Quinton Behlers, Maria Bohling, and Leslie Pfeifer.
