Do you stare at the graduation date on your calendar and wonder if you have the skills to survive in a world outside the boundaries of Peters and Garretson Avenue?

Well, look no further than Life after College Boot Camp Part II, a morning of seminars built to maximize your success after graduation.

Morningside College career counselor Stacie Hays has put together this event for the past two years. “The event offers a little bit of everything,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity for students to learn necessary things that they may not learn otherwise.”

The topics for the “boot camp” offer sessions in the Yockey room focused on teaching Morningside students a mix of essential skills for the college graduate. Sessions will take place in the morning and include:

9:00- Behavioral Based Interviewing with Mary Zink
9:45- 30 by 30 with Morningside alums Mitchell Schultze and Drake Johnson
10:15- How to Search for a Job as a Student with Morningside alum Margo Stanforth
11:00- Career Connections with Sioux City Go
11:45- Student Loans with the Morningside Financial Aid Department

Hays said she is also particularly excited about the Behavioral Based Interviewing session. “Mary Zink’s session will be really useful,” she said. “A lot of times, people think that they know how to behave in interviews, but then they freeze up when they get there. The Behavioral Based Interviewing session helps you learn a lot of tips and tricks to use in interviews.”

She also thinks that Morningside students with student loans ought to attend the Student Loans seminar. “We’ll start off as a group, but then students will be able to break off and talk with financial aid staff about their own personal loans and financial plans,” Hays said.

Students planning to attend the seminars must send an RSVP email to Hays (hays@morningside.edu) by Friday, January 31 and specify which sessions they’d like to attend.

By Hannah Hecht–Are you looking to fill the void in your heart left by the cancellation of classes on Tuesday, Feb. 4?
