By Cassie Burnside–<\/strong>The Mustangs opened their outdoor track and field season on Saturday, April 6, at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa.<\/p>\n

One of the first events of the day was the steeplechase.\u00a0 Morningside received two victories in this event:\u00a0 Nicole Ausborn and Mark Abrams.\u00a0 Ausborn finished with a time of 12:19.57 and Abrams with a time of 10:07.04.<\/p>\n

It was Abrams’ first time competing in this race.\u00a0 It was also his first time ever jumping over a water barrier.\u00a0 Abrams said, \u201cI was super nervous at first, but after the second and third water barrier jump, I started to get the hang of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morningside also received another victory in the 100 meter dash.\u00a0 Brian Szekely, a junior transfer from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, won with a time of 11.27 seconds.<\/p>\n

No athletes received automatic qualifying marks for nationals, but there were some provisional standards met.\u00a0 The Mustangs will compete this coming weekend, \u00a0Friday and Saturday, at the Sioux City Relays.<\/p>\n
