{"id":5114,"date":"2013-03-22T09:12:17","date_gmt":"2013-03-22T14:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/?p=5114"},"modified":"2013-03-22T09:12:17","modified_gmt":"2013-03-22T14:12:17","slug":"student-government-executives-elected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/archives\/5114","title":{"rendered":"Student Government Executives Elected"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>by Claire DeRoin and Cassie Burnside&#8211; <\/strong>According to a student-wide e-mail from current Student Advocate Ashleigh Starr, voting results are in and Morningside&#8217;s 2013-2014 student government executives have been elected.<\/p>\n<p>No surprise: Brendan Pinto has been elected as the new president with Spencer Eiseman as his vice president. Both were running unopposed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5120\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5120\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2013\/03\/pinto-e1363961461355.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-5120\" alt=\"President Brendan Pinto\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/files\/2013\/03\/pinto-200x266.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5120\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Student Government President Brendan Pinto<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Pinto is a sophomore biology major.\u00a0 Pinto is also involved in MAC, Shades, is an RA, and coaches at Seargent Bluff public schools. Pinto says he has \u201cRevolutionized the job of treasurer itself and wants to continue that role as president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eiseman is a sophomore graphic design major and is an active member on campus.\u00a0\u00a0During his time in\u00a0in Student Government and MAC, Eiseman has been voted \u201cSuper Senator\u201d and \u201cMAC Member of the Month\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Kaylee Betterton is the new treasurer. Betterton is a sophomore accounting and photography major.\u00a0\u00a0She is a RA, Student Ambassador, and Vice President of the Photo Club.\u00a0 While campaigning, she said that she would\u00a0keep accurate calculations of the budget and keep the senate and student body well informed of the budget available.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Johnson has been elected secretary.\u00a0Johnson is a freshman International Affairs and Mass Communications major.\u00a0 He is currently a senator in Student Government for Dimmitt.\u00a0 He said\u00a0his strengths were reaching out to people\u00a0because of his outgoing nature.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Brincks,\u00a0who ran\u00a0unopposed, is going to be Morningside&#8217;s first Director of Communications for student government. Brincks is a junior mass communications major. The Director of Communications position is a new position that will start next school year.\u00a0 This position will include handing the social media, public relations, and other media outlets to reach students. Brincks campaigned with the mindset, &#8220;Don&#8217;t vote for me because I&#8217;m the only one running. Vote for me because I can do the job well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jack O&#8217;Brien was elected student advocate. O\u2019Brien is a freshman majoring in American History, Political Science, and Law.\u00a0 O\u2019Brien said his leadership tactics include leading and following.\u00a0 He believes, \u201cYou need someone who will listen to you, represent your interests, and defend your concerns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Voting took place Wednesday and Thursday on campus outside of the cafeteria and by absentee ballot.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Claire DeRoin and Cassie Burnside&#8211; According to a student-wide e-mail from current Student Advocate Ashleigh Starr, voting results are in and Morningside&#8217;s 2013-2014 student government executives have been elected.
