Betterton, Jordan Langley<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>By Cassie Burnside&#8211;<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Tuesday afternoon, the Student Government executive candidates gave their speeches to Morningside students in Bucks.<\/p>\n<p>Running for the open positions are:<\/p>\n<p>Director of Communications:\u00a0 Nick Brincks<\/p>\n<p>Student Advocate:\u00a0 Jack O\u2019Brien and Lynsay Haverland<\/p>\n<p>Secretary:\u00a0 Samson Ogunbile and Paul Johnson<\/p>\n<p>Treasurer:\u00a0 Jordan Langley and Kaylee Betterton<\/p>\n<p>Vice President\/MAC President:\u00a0 Spencer Eiseman<\/p>\n<p>President:\u00a0 Brendan Pinto<\/p>\n<p>The director of communications position is a new position that will start next school year.\u00a0\u00a0This position will include handing the social media, public relations, and other media outlets to reach students.\u00a0\u00a0Candidate Nick Brincks is a junior mass communications major and is running unopposed.\u00a0\u00a0Brinks said, \u201cDon\u2019t vote for me because I\u2019m the only one running, vote for me because I can do the job well.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Brincks works with the campus\u00a0radio station in the Department of Mass Communications.<\/p>\n<p>Student Advocate candidates are Jack O\u2019Brien and Lynsay Haverland.<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Brien is a freshman majoring in American history, political science, and law.\u00a0 O\u2019Brien said his leadership tactics include leading and following.\u00a0 He believes, \u201cYou need someone who will listen to you, represent your interests, and defend your concerns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lynsay Haverland is a sophomore pre-medical student.\u00a0\u00a0 She has been involved in many groups on campus including, swim team, admissions, theater, and the mass communications department.\u00a0 Haverland believes she can well represent a wide variety of students on campus from being involved in many diverse activities.\u00a0 She said, \u201cA vote for me would not be a vote wasted but it would be a vote of betterment for Morningside College.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Secretary candidates are Samson Ogunbile and Paul Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>Samson is a sophomore physics and chemistry double major.\u00a0 He is a student athlete and is also very involved in RHA, Shades, and as a current Student Government senator.\u00a0 He takes many notes for his major is and is very dedicated to his work.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Johnson is a freshman international affairs and mass communications major.\u00a0 He is currently a senator in student government for Dimmitt.\u00a0 He said he could do his secretary job but also reach out to students.\u00a0 Johnson stated, \u201cI think I\u2019ll be a good secretary because I\u2019m outgoing and try to reach out to people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Treasurer candidates are Jordan Langley and Kaylee Betterton.<\/p>\n<p>Langley is a junior majoring in business.\u00a0 He is currently a part of the budget committee as a Student Government senator.\u00a0 Langley believes he has a good understanding how the budget works and how the funds are allocated.<\/p>\n<p>Kaylee Betterton is a sophomore accounting and photography major.\u00a0 On campus she is a RA, student ambassador, and is vice president of the Photo Club. \u00a0\u00a0All of these activities have given her an opportunity to have leadership and executive positions on campus.\u00a0 As treasurer, she would keep accurate calculations of the budget and keep the senate and student body well informed of the budget available.<\/p>\n<p>Spencer Eiseman is running unopposed for the vice president position.\u00a0 He is a sophomore graphic design major and is an active member on campus.\u00a0 While being in student government and MAC, Eiseman has been voted \u201cSuper Senator\u201d and \u201cMAC Member of the Month\u201d.\u00a0 Spencer said, \u201cOn Wednesdays, we vote for Spencer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also running unopposed is the president position.\u00a0 Brendan Pinto is a sophomore biology major.\u00a0 Pinto is also involved in MAC, Shades, is an RA, and coaches at Seargent Bluff public schools.\u00a0 He goes above and beyond his written duties.\u00a0 Pinto says he has \u201cRevolutionized the job of treasurer itself and wants to continue that role as president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Voting for the executive positions will take place Wednesday March 20 and Thursday March 21 in the Olsen Student Center Lobby from 11AM-1:00PM and 4:30PM-7:00PM<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Cassie
