\"Untitled\"<\/a>\u00a0By Claire DeRoin–<\/strong>There\u2019s a new group on Facebook that is sweeping campus by storm \u2013 gaining more than 270 likes in a mere day\u2019s time. The page \u201cConfessions of a Morningside Student\u201d was founded on February 20.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrivate message us your most disgusting, hilarious, embarrassing confessions that happened at Morningside,\u201d the page\u2019s About <\/i>section touts. \u201cIt will be posted ANONYMOUSLY on our page. So don\u2019t be shy, lets [sic] just have a laugh!\u201d<\/p>\n

And students are doing just that. Posts on the page include stories about awkward hook-ups, raunchy sex, and drunken escapades. There are a few family-friendly confessions, such as a hamster race as a hall function and a student that slipped secret admirer notes under random doors.<\/p>\n

Senior Michelle Kuester is disgusted by the page. \u201cIf someone came up to you and asked for your raunchiest sex story or embarrassing drunk story, wouldn\u2019t you want to slap them? This is no different.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of Kuester\u2019s concerns is the potential for the page founder to blackmail confession submitters. \u201cThere is a person <\/i>running this who knows exactly who says what. And their moral values are obviously questionable if they start a page like this. Why would you put blind faith in them to keep your secret?\u201d<\/p>\n

Scott Kruse, a computer science major, doesn\u2019t buy the \u201canonymity\u201d either. \u201cAll they\u2019re having people do right now is send a private message to the page and then they post it. Someone has to be seeing all of the names.\u201d<\/p>\n

Student Body President Kelci Teut finds the confessions on the Facebook page worrisome and frustrating.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’ve spent the past year working to improve the Morningside experience by having meetings with the administration, even giving up days of class to attend the Board of Directors meetings and retreat. But it seems like students are more moved by releasing their inhibitions,\u201d Teut said. \u201cStudents will freely admit their drunkenness and lewdness, gladly proclaim it, but yet, we struggle to get students involved in shaping their own education and experience. It took us two days to get just under 325 students to vote on the Student Government Referendum, which will have a direct financial impact on all those enrolling in classes again in the fall, but almost 300 students liked this [page] within a day.\u201d<\/p>\n

All RA\u2019s and Residence Life staff contacted for interviews replied that they could not comment on the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt reflects badly on the school and shows just how childish the students are here,\u201d Kuester says. Alluding to a post on the page, she continues, \u201cMorningside College: Discover yourself, define your world, and go to the bathroom in a hallway.\u201d<\/p>\n
