By Jescy Rodriguez<\/strong>–Since\u00a0the Lord of the Rings (LOTR)<\/i>\u00a0franchise has started to make movies, learning more about J.R.R. Tolkien\u2019s fantasy world of middle-earth has been all the rage for fans young and old alike.<\/p>\n

The recent movie rendition of a Tolkien classic,\u00a0the Hobbit<\/i>, has caused a stir in the community and revived a book following that had been dormant for several years since the\u00a0LOTR\u00a0<\/i>movies had been finished production.<\/p>\n

However, Tolkien fever is about to sweep Morningside College\u2019s Campus again during the marathon reading of the Hobbit on February 15, sponsored by Friday is Writing Day.<\/p>\n

Students and faculty wanting to take part in this event are encouraged to sign up for a reading time at:\u00a0http:\/\/www.doodle.com\/zk88ztz83ecvhizv<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Previous times reading marathons have been held on campus, books like the\u00a0Harry Potter<\/i>\u00a0series , the\u00a0Hunger Games<\/i>\u00a0trilogy, and\u00a0the Perks of Being a Wallflower\u00a0<\/i>were read aloud in various places on campus.<\/p>\n

Kelci Tuet, the student representative for Friday is Writing Day has been involved with these events and is especially excited about this upcoming Hobbit reading.\u00a0\u201cI love the Hobbit! We originally were planning to have this event earlier in the semester, but we had to push it back. We were hoping to be able to do something with MAC and the midnight movies. But, we found out a lot of people love the Hobbit, so we decided to go on with it anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n

Be sure to attend in order to have a chance to win some nifty prizes supplied by various on campus honors societies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are partnering with Alpha Lambda Delta , the freshman female honor society, and Alpha Pi Omicron, the theater honor society, as well as the Writing and Rhetoric and English departments to put this event on.\u00a0 Readers can win Hobbit related prizes for attending. Each half hour session wins the read a ticket for the drawing of these prizes,\u201d Teut said.<\/p>\n

Alongside a chance to win prizes, there will also be some organizations raising money for a couple different causes.\u00a0 Friday is Writing Day will be collecting pledges and donations. There will be pledge sheets for the readers in order to sponsor the number of minutes they read or the total number of readers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe donations will go to the Mary Treglia House and Girls, Inc., both here in Sioux City,\u201d Tuet explained<\/p>\n

Morningside English major and senior, Matthew Ponder, is one of the people really excited for\u00a0the Hobbit<\/i>\u00a0to be read as a marathon reading this time around.<\/p>\n

Ponder commented on the nearing reading marathon:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s for a good cause and having great literature being read by a large audience is just a fun environment to be in.\u00a0 Also, it’s a great way to brush up on your Tolkien reading.\u201d<\/p>\n
