Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of popular social networking website Facebook, parlayed his geeky affinity for computers into a million dollar windfall.  Even regular television shows like Community or Castle make appearances at San Diego Comic Con. With the highly anticipated release of The Avengers on May 4, it\u2019s official, nerd culture has gone mainstream.<\/p>\n

But why? What made it possible for the nerds to strike back?<\/p>\n

Senior Samantha McCarville says it might have something to do with intelligence. \u201cBeing a nerd is usually about being smart and being smart has gotten more attractive for everybody.\u201d To sum it up, just having a pretty face doesn\u2019t really pay the bills.<\/p>\n

\u201cNerds are more fun, too!\u201d Samantha adds with a laugh. That certainly is true. Nerds have got a whole lot of personality. One only has to glance at pictures of a comic con or sneak into a comic book store to see evidence of that.<\/p>\n

Nerd culture is about self-acceptance. These men and women know exactly who they are and don\u2019t seek anyone else\u2019s approval. Nerd culture has gone mainstream because the rest of the world is realizing what kind of fun they can have.
