Homework assignments are usually seen by the student doing the homework and the professor grading the homework. In Dave Madsen\u2019s Public Relations class, however, the hope is that many more people get to see what students have been working on.<\/p>\n

In the service learning class, student groups teamed up with local non-profit organizations to formulate public relations tactics that will help the organization meet some sort of objective, such as raising more money, gaining more sponsors, or seeing more traffic.<\/p>\n

Groups participating this semester are the Lamb Regional Theatre, the Mary Elizabeth Day Care, the Mary J. Treglia Community House, and Sanford Center, and the Crittenton Center.<\/p>\n

Dave Madsen, instructor of the class, enjoys offering the class as service learning course. \u201cI think it helps students understand exactly how to take the things learned in class and apply it to something you can use in the community. This is what is meant in the definition of service learning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Groups will present their public relation campaigns to their non-profit groups as a final presentation.\u00a0 The presentations will include topics such as the organizations\u2019 history, daily operations, current public relations programs, and suggested improvements by the groups.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
