Vendors included: Sippin’ 712, Kai Thai, Morningside Beef, Blue Tequila on the Go, 2 Fire Smash House, Tastee Inn and Out, Bob Roes, Dairy Queen, and Palmer Candy. With such a large selection of options, I decided to try a few of them to get my very own taste of what Morningside had to offer. While I wasn’t able to tackle every vendor, I still was able to try something from a few of the diverse array of options available.

The first one I tried was a drink from the Sippin’ 712 Dirty Soda truck, an extremely popular choice for many Siouxlanders. Despite arriving only shortly after the event kicked off, the line was already very long for the truck. I tried the “Original” dirty soda with Diet Coke which was mixed with fresh lime and coconut. This was a delicious and refreshing classic dirty soda mix, always a go-to for me anytime I have a dirty soda.

Next, I ordered the Beef Nachos from Blue Tequila To Go. Blue Tequila has always been a favorite place of mine and I knew anything from them would be terrific, and the Beef Nachos were no exception. It was absolutely loaded with savory meat and plenty of toppings along with it, a delightful and classic dish.

After that, I ordered a cheeseburger meal from the Morningside Beef vendor, which included a cheeseburger, chips, and a drink. It is hard to beat the simplicity of a cheeseburger, so of course this was a great addition to my meal. The Morningside students behind the grill did a great job and the burger was cooked and prepared amazingly as well. It was great to see that all the work that Morningside Ag students put into the entire process of raising the cattle had paid off.

Morningside Agriculture and Food Studies students cook burgers on the grill.

After that, I ordered one of my favorite meals from one of my favorite local food trucks, Kai Thai. I ordered their sesame chicken which came with a large portion of chicken and broccoli as well as a container of rice which I mixed together. At Kai Thai, you can pick a spice level to add to your meal, and it can get spicy quick. I added a “one” spice level to mine, which I find to be the best level for me personally. The dish was absolutely delicious as always, and I even had a few of their amazing egg rolls with it as well.

To finish it all off, I grabbed a Twin Bing from the Palmer Candy stand to go. Palmer Candy is always delicious and is truly a Sioux City staple.

This year’s Taste of Morningside did not disappoint and succeeded in showcasing a small slice of the vast selection of delicious cuisines that thrive in Morningside.

By Carter Gill – As the Morningside Mustangs faced the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers at the Homecoming football game this weekend, Morningside’s annual Taste of Morningside event kicked off with a selection of local Sioux City food and drink vendors.
