Thanks to the X account @25YearsAgoLive (2001Live), we can now make an estimate of how those situations may have been handled.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2001Live, curated by Manny Marotta, is a live-posting account publishing news from 25 years ago as if it were a current event. Recently, the account had to address a sensitive subject in the past few days: the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The account released 451 posts about the event, including photographs of the buildings and the damage, related events, and general news from the time period. However, not everyone is pleased with the faux coverage of the tragedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 For instance, some users questioned the authenticity of the account, stating there was no possible way for one man to be able to post every few minutes, while others questioned the accuracy, the possible monetization, and whether the account would address the conspiracies. Marotta watched 250 hours of film to accurately time his posts, all of which he did himself, with no assistance via programs or others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a post from the account, dated Sept. 7th, 2026, Marotta addressed concerns voiced by the public regarding 2001Live\u2019s upcoming content. The post answers questions viewers may have, including a comment about monetization during the event:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cQ: Won\u2019t you make loads of money off this, a tragedy? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Probably not. Last month, X decided to permanently suspend its creator monetization program and replace it with another program. I have not yet applied for the new program, and 9\/11 will not be monetized. I am doing this as a passion project and because I love history and have been live-posting history for eight years\u2014long before I was ever paid to do so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If I do end up being monetized for this day, I\u2019ve had ethical qualms. Earlier this year, I decided to donate all the money I made off of my posts on September 11, 2026. If I make any money off this, I will do that and post receipts. I encourage you also to donate to the charity of your choice. This was a tragic event, and funds deserve to go to the victims of the tragedy and in remembrance of it.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2001Live is still posting about the event and the subsequent news coverage, updating followers as if everything were happening in real time instead of 25 years ago.
