by Maren Ewertz–<\/strong>The Kiosk release is a highlight of the school year’s end. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year since 1938, Morningside has released a short collection of fiction, nonfiction, and other forms of short stories in a book. From the years 1938 to 1952, the Kiosk was referred to as\u00a0Manuscript<\/em>. Then\u00a0Manuscript<\/em>\u00a0became\u00a0Perspectives<\/em>\u00a0from the years 1953-1970. Ever since 1971, we have known\u00a0Perspectives<\/em>\u00a0as the\u00a0Kiosk<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

According to the magazine’s website, \u201cKiosk includes fiction, nonfiction, poetry and artwork created by students, alumni or members of the Morningside College community. Morningside students edit and design the publication.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s editor-in-chief was Julianna Baker. Days before the Kiosk was released, the English department had its annual \u201cEnglish Dinner\u201d where students either majoring or minoring in English could socialize. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julianna was one of the students who attended. While she was there, she was asked by many people, \u201cAre you excited for the release of the Kiosk?\u201d Her response was consistently, \u201cI\u2019m so excited! A little bit nervous, but very excited!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kiosk accepts pieces that are long, short, fiction or non-fiction, artwork that is either hand made, or photographs taken by phone or camera. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year there was a new type of submission. The Kiosk has never had bookmarks that specifically go with it. However, this year Paige Stockfeld submitted a short creative nonfiction piece that was in the form of a receipt. The editors reached out to her and asked if they could make it into a bookmark as part of the publication. She agreed, and was given a special shout out at the launch party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next year’s editor-in-chief will be Samantha Giesen. She will be a senior majoring in Religious Studies and English. This year, she was the head of poetry submissions.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
