{"id":15593,"date":"2023-12-10T15:02:55","date_gmt":"2023-12-10T21:02:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/?p=15593"},"modified":"2023-12-10T16:39:27","modified_gmt":"2023-12-10T22:39:27","slug":"mustang-women-win-three-consecutive-conference-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.morningside.edu\/thecr\/archives\/15593","title":{"rendered":"Mustang Women Win Third Consecutive Conference Game"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>by Alexis Spier&#8211;<\/strong>The Mustang women overcame a slow start Saturday to defeat the visiting Midland Warriors 70-54.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morningside struggled with Midland&#8217;s offense playing man-to-man. They switched to a zone defense after the first quarter but trailed 29-27 at half. The third quarter was the game changer for the Mustangs as they outscored the Warriors 26-9. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We just came off a great team win at Jamestown, so I was shocked with the way we started against Midland,&#8221; said head coach Jamie Sale. &#8220;They had no energy and were not focused, but I was glad to see them step up in the third quarter and play as a team.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lily Vollertsen came off the bench and led the Mustangs in scoring with 16 points. She was 5-10 from the field and shot a perfect 6-6 from the line. She also grabbed six rebounds, had two steals, and a block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alexis Spier was next in scoring with 13 points. She was 4-10 from the field and went 4-6 from the line. She struggled from behind the arc, only making one out of five attempts. She tied Chloe Lofstrom with the most rebounds in the game; both had seven. Lofstrom was 6-8 from the field, adding 12 points, two assists, and a block to the Mustang&#8217;s win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jordyn Carr led the team with 4 assists and 4 steals. Ella Wragge added 6 points and 5 rebounds to the game. Jaeden Webb scored 6 points in her second start of the season. Olivia Larsen came off the bench and tallied 7 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists. Lauren Hedlund came off the bench and also contributed 3 assists. Hedlund and Chaise Pfansteil both grabbed 4 rebounds on the game. Ten Mustangs each played over 14 minutes of the game and nobody played more than 25 minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morningside had another rough day of shooting as they only shot 20% from beyond the arc and 38.8% from the field. However, Midland only shot 17.9% from beyond the arc and 36.1% from the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jenna Webber was the only Warrior to score in double digits with 10 points. Sarah Shepard led the Warriors with 9 rebounds and Gabby Beauperthuy led with 4 assists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mustangs are now 4-3 in conference play and 7-4 overall. They will travel to Dakota State Monday, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m for their next match.
